Quantum Technologies meet Medtech

What opportunities does quantum technology open up for the healthcare sector? The matchmaking event “Quantum Technologies & Photonics meet Medtech” at the NMI today focused on precisely these opportunities. Among the keynote speeches was a presentation by NMI scientist Julia Marzi, who spoke about “Spectral fingerprints as novel biomarkers in regenerative medicine”.

Julia Marzi used the example of Raman spectroscopy and imaging to show how techniques that are already commonplace in other fields of science can be transferred to medicine and used profitably. Raman spectroscopy has the ability to capture a great deal of information from cells without damaging or destroying them. This provides valuable insights into the degradation of polymers in the body and the subsequent tissue structure.

The event then offered participants plenty of opportunities for matchmaking and networking with experts, providers and users from research and development. There was also valuable information on current funding programs in the field of quantum technologies as well as practical advice on submitting applications.

Many thanks to RegioClusterAgentur, Photonics BW, Quantum BW, and BioRegio STERN for organizing the event!
