Elektrospinning

Dr. Hanna Hartmann
Head of Biomedicine & Material Sciences

In electrospinning, a polymer solution or polymer melt is pumped through a needle toward a collector.

At the NMI, research is being conducted on electrospun nonwovens made of a wide variety of materials and for different, mostly biomedical, applications.

Among other things, we are concerned with the following:

  • Selection of suitable polymers, solvents and spinning parameters
  • Process optimization
  • Optical, physicochemical and biological fiber characterization
  • Fiber modification and coating

Projects

  • PolyKARD- Synthesis of a biomimetic pericardial polymer for cardiac applications
  • NatInk- Establishment of electrospun hollow fiber fragments and investigation of their properties for bioinks
  • 3G-BioInk- Development of a 3D cell culture screening model
  • Fiber4Ink -  Research into a multifunctional fiber platform
  • Woundsens - A paradigm shift in health monitoring with electrospun enzymatic neomaterials
