The aim of the project is the immunoaffinity mass spectrometric quantification of protein biomarkers in the plasma of newborns and premature babies. A premature baby with a birth weight of 600 g has a plasma volume of only about 20 ml. Due to this low plasma volume, extensive protein diagnostics are not possible for newborns and especially premature babies, so that there are not even normal values for many proteins. If the PlasmaQBaby project is successful, a large number of quantitative protein determinations will be available for the first time ever for diagnostic purposes in newborns and premature babies.
