Patient-specific on-site functionalization of bone graft substitutes with long-term antibiotic activity

Description

As part of the overall project, which aims to develop a technology for the coating and antibiotic functionalization of bone substitute materials (BMS), the NMI subproject aims to investigate the polymer chemistry for the design of a suitable polyelectrolyte multilayer and the process engineering principles for its reproducible, efficient generation on BMS substrates. The subproject will also investigate the fundamentals of encapsulation chemistry in order to be able to use different antibiotics for functionalizing the KEM, despite their sometimes highly disparate chemical and physical properties. The planned work covers both conceptual and synthesis-side research, as well as the development of context-specific, high-performance analytical methods for the differentiated investigation of alternative solutions and mechanisms of action.
