Lighthouse Project Nanoanalytics Center

RegioWIN Lighthouse Project

RegioWIN Lighthouse Project LTP1: Establishment of a research and service center for high-resolution nanoanalytics
Establishment of a research and service center for high-resolution nanoanalytics

Description

In 2017, a building with laboratory and office space will be constructed together with the research campus. The centerpiece of the new center will be a high-resolution, analytical transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). In addition, investments will be made in the preparative equipment of the center to effectively exploit the potential of the TEM and the other nanoanalytical instruments.

The center will provide a regional contact point for innovative companies with materials technology questions and product ideas. In the future, they will be able to take advantage of materials science and nanotechnology expertise, advice and support in their vicinity. At the same time, the center will also be attractive for scientists, who can conduct both basic and application-oriented research here.

Strengthening industry and cutting-edge research
Innovation, sustainable growth and employment - these three criteria will be used to measure the lighthouse projects in terms of successful regional development. Here, both lighthouse projects promise promising results. Companies from the medical technology, automotive, mechanical engineering and toolmaking sectors as well as research institutions from Baden-Württemberg will use the nanoanalytics offering, in particular high-resolution electron microscopy, for their materials research, materials and product development from the beginning of 2018. The utilization model explicitly provides for low-threshold access for practitioners from companies. The new center will thus provide a boost to innovation in the region in the field of materials science and materials technology and strengthen the competitiveness of local companies.

The combination of medical technology and biotechnology under one roof and the intensive exchange of different users from science and industry on the research campus promotes cutting-edge research. The focus will be on the common goal of attracting future industries to make the business location fit for the future.
