Synapsing: Research project on mental illness starts
Project start: Together with more than 10 partners from all over Europe, the Synapsing project begins at the NMI. The aim is to research synapse dysfunction in mental and neurodegenerative diseases, to develop blood biomarkers for diagnosis and therapy monitoring and to analyze socio-economic risk factors.
The NMI's tasks include the production of stem cell-derived nerve cells from patients (e.g. schizophrenia and frontotemporal dementia) and the identification of functional biomarkers, i.e. changes in neuronal network activity.
