Development of a novel atrial appendage closure system for stroke prophylaxis

Description

The aim of the collaborative project is to develop an atrial appendage closure system, consisting of a novel occluder with a special anchoring system and a delivery system, for catheter-based closure of the left atrial appendage to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. A biofunctional coating of the occluder cover is intended to promote endothelialization and thus "ingrowth" of the implant on the one hand, and to prevent the risk of thrombus formation on the other.

While Bentley Innomed GmbH, Hechingen, is responsible for the development of the occluder and the delivery system, the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute will develop the biofunctional coating.
