drug testing

Drug testing in neural model systems

Description

At the NMI, nerve cells from rodents are used to test substances on behalf of customers. Thanks to the NMI's expertise in immunocytochemical processes, microscopic applications and throughput-capable assays, a wide range of cell-biological parameters can be checked with regard to the effect of the test substance. This includes the analysis of the synaptic wiring and the query of other morphometric characteristics of neuronal cells such as the neurite length. After application of the test substance, other highly specific tests can be used to determine, among other things, vitality, the status of apoptosis (cell death) and the content of cell-damaging oxygen radicals.
