In the field of tribology and lubrication technology, many millions of euros and thousands of hours are invested every year in machine tests to evaluate lubricants in their application and in the development of new lubricants. New challenges arise from the demand for a reduction in friction losses, wear and rapid replacement of REACH-relevant lubricants in sustainable applications. An abundance of new additives and lubricants, projected onto the parameters required in the life cycles, leads to an excessive and time-consuming amount of testing, which is at odds with the short development time. In order to obtain an a priori prediction of the properties and usability of alternative lubricants, digital calculation approaches based on DIN functional tests are required.
