Advanced materials

The Advanced Materials group studies new materials, in particular 2D materials and other low-dimensional systems. Since the the isolation of graphene in 2004, a large number of 2D materials has been discovered in the meantime. Many of these materials possess unusual electronic, mechanical or optical properties. In particular, they can be combined by simply stacking them on top of each other. We investigate the structure, structure-property relationships and new ways of manipulating these materials using atomic resolution electron microscopy.
