Description:
The M-Era.NET project interBATT combines unique and complementary expertise from three applied research institutions (NMI and DLR in Germany and LIST in Luxembourg) and two industrial partners (Custom Cells Itzehoe GmbH (CCI) and AIXTRON SE (AIX)). In the project, selected boundary layers in battery systems will be investigated using model systems in order to derive a fundamental understanding of the critical phenomena at these interfaces.

This knowledge will be transferred to the development of nanostructured architectures, which should enable the implementation of high capacity anodes made of silicon and metallic lithium. This will increase energy density while maintaining cycle life and performance. The interfaces will be developed with nanocoating techniques using industrially relevant innovative coating solutions. The most promising technologies developed in the project will be integrated and technically evaluated in a highly scalable and representative prototype pouch cell at the partner CCI.

The NMI's task is to develop in-situ coating processes and high-resolution analysis of interfaces using cryo-ion and electron microscopy.
