Sustainable extraction of high-quality milk components using innovative cell culture technology
The vision

Together with our partner Senara, the NMI is working on the future of food supply. The aim of the project is to research and develop cell-based production platforms for cultured milk components. This approach enables resource-efficient production under controlled conditions and contributes to the transformation of existing value chains.

Our core competencies in the project:
  • Cell line development & optimization: The NMI uses state-of-the-art molecular biology methods in the development of stable, high-performance cell lines. The focus is on establishing robust production systems that are suitable for the efficient manufacture of functional milk proteins and can address long-term industrial requirements.
  • Functional product properties: Another focus is on the targeted investigation and improvement of the functional properties of the proteins produced. The aim is to enable milk components with optimized properties for various applications in the food industry.
  • Precision analytics & quality assurance: Our bioanalytical expertise enables high-throughput monitoring of product quality. We define critical quality attributes and use highly sensitive methods to ensure that the proteins produced meet the highest standards in terms of structure and composition.
From the laboratory to the market

By establishing professional cell banks and validating production processes on a laboratory scale, we are laying the foundation for industrial scaling. Within a few years, this should enable sustainable dairy products to enter the market as high-quality ingredients for the food industry.
