The aim of the project is the immunoaffinity mass spectrometric quantification of protein biomarkers in the plasma of newborns and premature infants. A preterm infant with a birth weight of 600 g has a plasma volume of only about 20 ml. Due to this low plasma volume, comprehensive protein diagnostics is not possible for newborns and in particular premature babies, so that for many proteins there are not even standard values. If the PlasmaQBaby project is successful, a large number of quantitative protein determinations will be available for the first time ever for diagnostic purposes in newborns and premature infants.
