The project goal is the development of a highly stable, all-solid-state complete micro reference electrode and its integration into sensor systems for applications in medical diagnostics, biotechnology and chemical process technology.

Description:

The ref4apps project aims at miniaturization and integration of a reference electrode into the specific applications of the companies involved. In particular, sample devices will be provided to assess temperature stability, sterilization procedures, longterm stability and shelf life, and potential stability. At the core of this research is the development of a solid-state electrolyte. It is made using different monomers and ionic liquid which are polymerized by using - for example - photopolymerization. Due to appropriate crosslinking, low swelling is observed. The ionic liquid provides for retainment of anions within the terpolymer and sufficient conductivity. This solid-state electrolyte will form the connection between a Ag/AgCl pseudoreference and the sample medium, respectively.
