The aim of the OncoChip project is a novel tumor model in a continuously perfusable microfluidic chip for applications in drug development.

Description:

The aim of the OncoChip project is to develop a novel tumor model for drug development using
1. controlled construction and cultivation of a perfusable microtumor model from cell lines / primary cells
2. analytical methods for the efficacy testing of substances for microtumours
3. Further development of an existing single channel chip into a multiwell plate for throughput increase
4. evaluation of the predictive power of the model for the human in vivo situation with reference substances / markers
5. measurement of tumor response to treatment with new drug candidates.
In the microfluidic system, cells are assembled in a controlled manner into a microtumour tissue. The OncoChip thus addresses the demand of the pharmaceutical industry for new tumour models in which the cellular composition, size and structural structure of the microtumour can be controlled. In combination with continuous perfusion, these culture conditions reproduce the situation in the tissue with high reproducibility. This enables the continuous analysis of the reaction of the microtumour to potential active substances by means of optical and biochemical read-outs in a controlled human microenvironment.
