How do cells respond to certain active substances or even to toxins? Observing and measuring the electrical impulses within and between cells provides valuable insights. Do the cells respond at all? And if so, do they do so as expected and desired?
The particular strength of electrophysiological research at the NMI lies in the very close collaboration between engineering and biology. Years of expertise in the development of microelectrode arrays and organ-on-chip systems lead to a constant stream of new innovations, in part because electrophysiologists can provide direct feedback on their needs.
As a result, the NMI offers both research and services – ranging from the development of test systems to measurements within cells – and is also able to accommodate individual customer requests.
