Text:

As part of the collaborational project, which aims to develop a technology for the coating and antibiotic functionalization of bone substitute materials (BSM), the NMI's subproject aims to investigate the polymer chemistry for the design of a suitable polyelectrolyte multilayer and the process engineering principles for its reproducible, efficient preparation on BSM substrates. The subproject also investigates the fundamentals of encapsulation strategies in order to be able to use different antibiotics to functionalize the BSM, despite their highly disparate chemical and physical properties. The planned work includes conceptual and synthesis-related research as well as the development of context-specific, high-performance analytical methods for the differentiated investigation of alternative solutions and functional mechanisms of new BSMs.
