This project aims at a compact, magnetically coupled micro gear pump. Since it does not require a mechanical drive shaft it is particularly well suited to pump contamination sensitive fluids. Fabrication is by injection moulding resulting a scalable and cost effective production. Both contract manufacturing as well as licencing are possible.

Description:

The microcoolpump project, a cooperation between the NMI (coordinator) and the Kunststoffinstitut Lüdenscheid (KIMW), aims at the development of a small magnetically driven micropump yielding a pumping rate of 1000ml/min as well as the required fabrication technology. An immediate need for such a pump is given by the cooling therapy product which is currently being developed within the MOLLICool project. The magnetic coupling scheme enables applications where an absolute seal of the fluid with respect to the environment is mandatory, for example in order to avoid contamination and/or leackage. All components are manufactured by injection moulding, which provides for cost effective and scalable fabrication. This pump is therefore suitable for single use applications requiring a perfusion pump which for example may be integrated in a sterilized container and ready for immediate use.
