The aim of the cooperation project is to develop an atrial ear closure system, consisting of a novel occluder with a special anchoring system and a delivery system, for the catheter-assisted closure of the left atrium to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. A biofunctional coating of the occluder cover is intended to promote endothelialisation and thus the "ingrowth" of the implant on the one hand, and to prevent the risk of thrombus formation on the other.

While Bentley Innomed GmbH, Hechingen, is responsible for the development of the occluder and the delivery system, the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute will develop the biofunctional coating.
