Text:
Intelligent materials for the treatment of joint inflammation
The project aims to establish a material platform for the local therapy of economically significant diseases such as inflammatory joint diseases. Such inflammations often occur in the course of arthrosis, mostly in the knee joints. The incidence of degenerative diseases of the musculoskeletal system, such as arthrosis, is continuously increasing due to demographic developments in western industrial countries. One in four adults in Germany currently suffers from osteoarthritis. The project is developing new technologies that enable the modular production and approval of so-called "hydrogels" with adjustable material properties as medical devices, drugs, combination products or carrier materials for cell-based regenerative therapies.
