The project aims at the research and development of processes and methods with which stable liver co-cultures can be produced from primary liver cells or cell lines in the HepaChip-MWP in a reproducible, robust manner and can be investigated with the usual biochemical and optical readout methods.
The HepaChip-MWP chip offers 24 cell culture areas in multiwell format in which cells can be assembled actively and selectively (vital cells) by dielectrophoresis and form organoids with the in vivo-like sinusoid morphology. Continuous, tubeless perfusion, compatibility with common cell culture procedures and the applicability of common analytical methods for the measurement of vitality, metabolism and morphology are further important features of the HepaChip-MWP system.
