About the NMI
The NMI is an application-oriented research institute. It is governed by a non-profit, public law foundation which is domiciled in Reutlingen.
What the NMI does
The NMI conducts research and development in decisive areas relating to future science, with the main focus being on the medical industry. Our institute is committed to facilitating knowledge translation and technology transfer in this field. We understand our role as a bridge linking science with industry. We are particularly keen on working with small companies.
A milestone year for the NMI was 1996, when the first of 12 spin-off companies was established. Most of their products are a direct result of the research and development done at the NMI and, in the case of some spin-offs, the high-tech labs at the NMI served as the incubator for the innovative products they now manufacture.
