Functional surfaces and layer systems
Suitable coatings can be used to adapt the properties of material surfaces to a particular application environment. For example, plasma coatings can be used to set the adhesive, antifrictional and wetting properties, the corrosion and wear resistance, and the biocompatibility of material surfaces for a wide range of products.
One key objective is to ensure that the interface between the material and biosystems achieves a specific cell or tissue interaction with these surfaces.
Interdisciplinary cooperation is required to develop layer systems for medical and biotechnology applications. The focus lies on the surface treatment of medical instruments and plastic surfaces in microfluidic chips and on the long-term stability of active implant encapsulation.
