Postdoctoral Researcher – Tumor Biology Group

The NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tübingen, a research institute of the Innovationsallianz Baden-Württemberg, is dedicated to applied research at the interface of Life Sciences and Material Sciences. Within its molecular biology department, the tumor biology group of Dr. Christian Schmees is engaged in translational oncology projects by applying 3D microtumor models from primary tumor tissue in combination with autologous immune cells for preclinical compound testing (http://www.nmi-tt.de/pharmaservices/custom-cell-services/3d-tumour-spheroid-t-cell-co-cultures.php). Another focus of the group is the application of CRISPR-based genome editing in cell-based model systems subsequently used for drug development and target validation purposes.

To support our growing team, we now seek to fill the position of a

Postdoctoral Researcher
Tumor Biology Group

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, coordinating, executing and reporting experiments with primary 3D cancer cell cultures as well as immune cell co-cultures to characterize functional activity of compounds in academic collaborations and contract research projects,
  • Developing novel applications and read-out technologies for ex vivo 3D cancer immune cell co-cultures,
  • Optimizing and advancing experimental protocols and data analysis procedures for complex 3D co-culture and genome-editing approaches,
  • Presenting results at internal/external meetings and conferences
  • Contributing to publications of our results and the acquisition of additional grant-funded projects.

Requirements:

  • PhD in immunology/immune-oncology, biochemistry, or cell biology,
  • Solid working expertise in a molecular biology, cell biology or immunology lab,
  • Proficiency with culturing of primary and immortalized cancer cell lines (2D and 3D format), confocal microscopy, FACS analysis and cell / molecular biology assay methodologies (e.g. luminometric/ fluorometric assays, western blotting),
  • Practical experience in cancer immunology and/or from pharma industry is a strong asset,
  • Project management skills are desirable,
