PhD Position – cell biology / immunology

The NMI at the University of Tübingen, a research institute of the “Innovationsallianz Baden-Württemberg”, conducts applied research at the interface of Life and Material Sciences. The Department of Cell Biology develops innovative cellular test systems for research and industrial applications.

To support our joined research project „Systemimmunologie an biologisch-technischen Grenzflächen“, we are looking for a motivated

PhD student
with high interest in biomedical research and solid background in immunology, molecular and cell biology.

The project aims at the development of novel cellular systems, which enable a reliable prediction of the immune response towards biomaterials. In this context the candidate will develop intracellular biosensors to visualize immuno-typical responses in real time. Biosensor comprising cellular models will be generated and their responses to immune stimuli and biomaterials will be analyzed by high-content imaging. For a comprehensive analysis findings from those studies will be correlated to results obtained with FACS and cytokine quantification.

The group of Professor Ulrich Rothbauer works on (a) the development and application of nanobodies for protein purification, protein-protein interaction analysis, crystallization studies, mass spectrometry approaches and super-resolution microscopy and (b) the generation and validation of intracellular biosensors (chromobodies) to monitor components and processes in living cells using fluorescence microscopy including high-content imaging.
